lettering set for NOT&M’s 8’-6” IH Howe Truss boxcars

The New Orleans, Texas and Mexico Railroad was the parent of three principal railroads: the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway; the Beaumont, Sour Lake and Western Railway, and the New Orleans, Texas and Mexico Railway - collectively known as The Gulf Coast Lines. This combination of railroads now linked Chicago, St. Louis, Memphis, Houston and Brownsville. The aspirations to continue to Tampico and Mexico City never materialized. In 1924 the NOT&M bought the International-Great Northern, and in December of that year the Missouri Pacific bought all of the Gulf Coast Lines and operated it as it’s subsidiary.

In December of 1929, the NOT&M had 120, 40’-6” single-sheathed Howe-truss design 8’-6” IH boxcars built by General American Car Company in their Kingsville, Texas plant. These cars were assigned road numbers as Series 3601-3720

Paint & Lettering: Entire car painted with freight car red TCP-139. Lettering all white stencil paste. Truck bolster stenciled with 2” reporting marks. Wheels unpainted.
