![]() In November of 1938, the C&EI purchased from the Georgia & Florida Railroad, 100 Howe Truss boxcars from G&F’s 7001-7500 series boxcars, built by AC&F under Lot 285 in November 1926. Reconditioned, painted and reweighed in C&EI’s Danville, Illinois shops (DV) and released into service in December 1938. Cars were assigned road numbers as C&EI’s Series 500-599. Cars retained their original Murphy corrugated ends with inward-facing corrugations; and Hutchins Dry Lading steel flexible roofs. Paint & Lettering: Cars painted freight car brown; doors and ends painted black. Repainted in the mid-1940’s through 1950’s the cars would have received a red-oxide color over the entire car. Lettering all while stencil paste. End reporting marks painted on a separate placard.
