In May of 1946, The SP&S took delivery of 500 1944 AAR design boxcars with an inside height of 10’-6”. These cars represented the rst all-steel boxcars on
the SP&S. (Prior to this the primary boxcar eet of the SP&S consisted of 300 USRA design double-sheathed received in 1920 and assigned Series numbers
10000-10299)
Series 11000-11249, 250 cars, Pullman-Standard under Lot 5826, delivered May 1946 - equiped with 7-Panel Superior doors
Series 11250-11499, 250 cars, Pullman-Standard under Lot 5826, delivered May 1946 - equiped with Youngstown doors
Paint & Lettering: Cars painted freight car brown: TCP-249. Lettering all white stencil paste. Originalliy lettered with the arched road name, then later
relettered with the ‘football’ medallion in the 1950’s, and nally by the end of the 1950’s and into the 1960’s, repaints used the new 30” high serifed initials.
SP&S 11375 was reweighed and relettered in July of 1960, in GN’s Great Falls, Montana shops. Note that in July 1957, the large road letters suced to make up
the reporting marks with the number only in the usual position. By 1970, the 60” high, and sometimes stepped, SP&S was applied - see decal set SP&S-4c.
