Previous Return to list of all 40’ boxcars in 1:48 scale Next lettering for DSS&A’s P-S 1 design boxcars -1960’s repaint scheme
![]() In the early 1960’s, the DSS&A began a new slogan scheme applied during the repainting of their boxcar fleet with the new wind-blown DSSand A slogan together with a non-stenciled herald. This decal set covers both the PS-1’s and the earlier Modified 1937 AAR design boxcars when repainted. In November 1940, the DSS&A took delivery of 100 Modied 10’-6” IH design boxcars from Pullman-Standard under Lot 5645, and assigned Series 17000-17099. The cars were built with 5/5 DN’s with square corners, Ajax Power hand brake, and wood running boards. The DSS&A received two groups of PS-1 design boxcars: in November 1948, 100 cars from Pullman-Standard under Lot 5919A as Series 15000-15099. Equiped with Pullman Patented 5/5 ends and welded 10-panel car sides with 7-panel Superior 6’ doors. In September 1953, an addtional 100 cars were received from Pullman but with riveted 10-panel sides and 5-panel Superior 6’ doors, under Lot 8143, and assigned Series numbers 15100-15199. Both Series were equiped with Equipco power hand brakes and Apex running boards. Paint & Lettering: Cars painted freight car brown: TCP-55 or TCP-200. Ends and underframe coated with black car cement. Note: try mixing this color with a bit of TCP-179 grey to replicate oxidation and fading over the years for a more realistic color.
