Lettering for Wabash's Modified 1937 AAR boxcars with long sill tab - 1950's scheme

The Wabash built 875 Modified 1937 AAR design box cars in their own shops. The first lot of 520 cars were delivered August 1942 and were assigned road numbers 86000-86519. The second lot of 355 cars were delivered August of 1944 and were assigned road numbers 86520-86874. Car was painted Wabash box car red: 1 part Floquil Southern Freight Car Brown #110186 and 1 part Oxide Red, Floquil #110186. Underbody and truck side frames painted with black car cement. Wheels were unpainted and allowed to rust and gather a coating of axle grease. Lettering designed and sized at Protocraft Decals with artwork by Norm Buckhart
