![]() In October 1941, the MONON received 150 1937 AAR 10'-0" IH boxcars from Pullman-Standard, Lot 5667B, Series 9150-9449; and again in April 1942, 300 cars from Pullman-Standard, Lot 5707, Series 9500-9999 (Note: after 1960, the reporting marks were changed to MON, keeping the same series numbers). Between May 1952 and January 1957, these cars were repainted with the light gray Hoosier Line banner across the top of the car with black lettering (see Protocraft Decals CIL-4 for this paint and lettering scheme). A small number of these cars were selected, probably less than 10 and seemingly at random, for LCL service. Photographs are rare. The light gray banner was relettered to read "HIGH SPEED MERCHANDISE SERVICE". This was in response to rival PRR and B&O LCL service competition. Lettering and artwork designed and sized at Protocraft Decals.
Decal set includes two sheets. According to Mont Switzer, the 'white' banner stripe was an off-white, almost gray color. One method suggested tis to first paint the stripe all black, then repaint it with white on top, resulting in a gray color. Extra black banner lettering is included for those that wish to paint the banner rather than apply it as a decal.
