Lettering for rebuilt 1937 Series 40500-40917 10'-0" IH boxcars

In 1937 the N.P took delivery of 520 wood sided 1937 AAR design boxcars, much like the Great Northern’s. Built by Pacic Car & Foundry in Renton, WA, the cars were assigned Series 9480-9999. In the mid-1950’s a majority of these cars were rebuilt with 55-ton trucks and renumbered as Series 40500-40917, many were still in revenue service in the mid-1970’s. Repainting included the post 1955 5’ monad medallion with NORTHERN PACIFIC RAILWAY, periods and 1’ reporting marks lines were dropped. This decal sheet is designed for this scheme. Paint & Lettering: Cars were painted NP mineral brown. Tru-Color #193. Lettering is all white stencil paste with the red and black monan.
