The C&IM leased 455 40-ton rebuilt Mather patented-design boxcars from the Mather Stock Car Co, in 1931, Series 8000-8454. Primarily

obtained for high-density our shipments, over 150 of these cars were still in revenue service in the mid-1950’s.
 

Paint & Lettering: Sides painted Buttercup yellow with mineral red ends and roof. Underbody coated with black car cement. Lettering

black with white end lettering.
