The Maine Central received 1,004, 1923 ARA design 8’-7” IH boxcars from Standard Steel Car Company in August 1929, as Series 5000-6003. Delivered with
the road’s name spelled out on the right side. By 1949, the oval medallion was applied during repainting, and by 1955, these cars received the yellow pine tree
scheme (see decal sheet MEC-4) After the late 1950’s the remaining cars were downgraded to 40-tons and renumbered to the 15000-15999 Series.

In the mid-1940’s a new round emblem appeared with the pine tree and the word CENTRAL horizontally under the tree. This was short lived and after 1947 during subsquent routine matenance this was painted over and replaced with the simpler MAINE CENTRAL around inside the circle. ![]() ![]() ![]() Background color shown above is not included in decal sheet |
