Out of all the Class I railroads, the Missouri Pacic was the largest buyer of the 1932 ARA boxcar design with 3,250 cars divided up between it’s many subsidiaries.
These were delivered and assigned series numbers as follows:
I-GN Series 17001-17300, 300 cars, American Car & Foundry, Lot 1493, delivered June 1936 - inside height of 9’-4”
MP Series 30000-31399, 1,400 cars, Mt. Vernon Car Mfg. Co., Lot 9113, delivered August 1936 - inside height of 9’-1”
MP Series 31400-31499, 100 cars, Mt. Vernon Car Mfg. Co., Lot 9145, delivered - 1936 - inside height of 9’-1”
NOT&M Series 17301-17500, 200 cars, Mt. Vernon Car Mfg. Co., Lot 9163, delivered November 1936 - inside height of 9’-4”
MP Series 31500-32399, 900 cars, Mt. Vernon Car Mfg. Co., Lot 9257, delivered May 1937 - inside height of 9’-1”
MP Series 32400-32499, 100 cars, Mt. Vernon Car Mfg. Co., Lot 9271, delivered October 1937 - inside height of 9’-1”
M-I Series 4000-4249, 250 cars, Mt. Vernon Car Mfg. Co., Lot 9462, delivered July 1939 - inside height of 9’-4”
Paint & Lettering: Cars were painted all boxcar brown: TCP-923. Door placards, underbody and truck side frames painted black car cement. Wheels were
unpainted and allowed to rust and gather a coating of axle grease.
During repaint service the cars received the larger 42’ diameter medallions and the slogan “Route of the Eagles” beginning in June of 1949.
