The X23 was the Pennsylvania’s rst standard 40’ boxcar to use steel bracing. In 1912 the PRR built 1,000 in it’s Altoona, PA shops. Between 1912 and January 1914, the PRR either built or took delivery of a total of 7,117 type X23 boxcars. Builders besides PRR’s shops, were AC&F, WSC&F (Western Steel Car & Foundry), Pressed Steel and Standard Steel. Series began at 40001, and not consecutivly, ran up to 562723.
Paint & Lettering: Car painted PRR freight car red. Lettering all white stencil paste.
