Previous Return to list of all decals in this line CN Next lettering for CN’s 36’ single-sheathed boxcars
![]()
With it’s founding in 1918, the newly created CN inherited almost 38,278, 36‘ Fowler Patent boxcars during the consolidation of the Canadian Government
Railways held roads and the Canadian Northern. Cars were now relettered with CN lettering with series assigned as 402000-440278. Very few were converted
to the later AB brake systems and so were not approved for interchange service outside Canadian rail lines with their K brakes. These were at rst supplemented
with and later replaced by the new 1923 and later 1929, 40’ steel frame cars of basically the same design - See decal sheet CN-1a.
Paint & Lettering: The cars and truck side frames were originally painted CN’s Standard Mineral Brown - Red No. 11 (close to but slightly darker than a Tuscan
Oxide Red ). Lettering was all white stencil paste.
