Previous Return to list of all 40’ boxcars in 1:48 scale Next lettering for WP’s early wood 40-ton boxcars
![]() In June of 1917, the WP received 800, 8’-0”I.H. double-sheathed 40-ton boxcars from Mt. Vernon Car Company, and assigned road numbers as Series 16001-16800. During the same year an additional 1,500 cars arrived with the Series continued as 16801-18300. During WWII, 600 cars were chosen to be rebuilt with Dreadnaught steel ends and renumbered into Series 27001-27600. In 1947, 200 of these cars were sent to subsidiary Sacramento Northern as series 2301-2328. (See Protocraft Decals SN-1) Paint & Lettering: When first received the original 800 cars were lettered with 12” block sans-serif lettering and the early Feather River Route all white medallion. (see Protocraft Decals WP-1a for this scheme) All the cars were painted freight car red: TCP-204. Repaint and the remaining 1,500 cars when delivered (this scheme) came with black ends and received the simple W.P. reporting marks and the newer 42-1/2” x 47-1/2” WP medallion painted on the door.
