BAR’s STATE of MAINE - 1950’s scheme

The Bangor & Aroostook Railroad ordered 650 boxcars with dimensions specifically for roll size to accommodate their newsprint customers.   Built to the 1932 ARA design, thicker flooring for heavy newsprint rolls and fork lifts resulted in an inside height of 9’-2” , and were delivered as follows: 

Series 65000-65499, 500 cars, Magor Car Corp, delivered  June 1938 
Series 65500-65549,   50 cars, Magor Car Corp, Lot W710, delivered  February 1945 
Series 65550-65649, 100 cars, Magor Car Corp, delivered 1945 
(Note: around 1954, the first digit was dropped, effectively renumbering the series as 5000-5649)

Paint & Lettering:   In the mid-1950’s, many of these cars were repainted with the red, white and blue band ‘STATE OF MAINE PRODUCTS” scheme.  Ends, truck sideframes and underframe  coated with TEXACO black car cement.
