Previous Return to list of all 40’ boxcars in 1:48 scale Next Alton Railroad lettering for the 1937 AAR Modified boxcar as delivered
![]() Between April and May 1945, the Alton took delivery of 700 box cars of the Modified 1937 AAR design. One hundred from Pullman-Standard, Lot #5793, and assigned road numbers 52400-52499, and 600 from AC&F, Lot #2751, and assigned road numbers 52500-53099. In 1947 all these cars went to parent GM&O and repainted with GM&O markings while retaining the same road numbers. Cars were painted red-brown (1 part Floquil #88 and 1 part Floquil 175) underbody and truck side frames painted black car cement. Wheels were unpainted and allowed to rust and gather a coating of axle grease. A good representation of this patina is to paint the wheels and axles with a 50% mixture of Floquil Grimey Black and 50% Floquil Zinc Chromate Primer. Lettering designed and sized at Protocraft Decals with artwork by Norm Buckhart ![]() Background color shown above is not included in decal sheet |
