Previous Return to list of all 40’ boxcars in 1:48 scale Next yellow lettering for Monon's 1958 all black boxcar scheme
![]() In April, 1942, 300 cars of the 1937 AAR design were delivered from Pullman-Standard’s Michigan City plant, Lot 5707, and assigned road numbers 9150-9449. Random cars in their way to the repaint shop in 1958 were painted all black with yellow lettering. This only lasted a couple of years and then were repainted all brown with white lettering again. According to Mont Switzer, Bob Schultz made a list of all the cars he saw during this period with the all black car and yellow lettering. They are: 9025, 9095, 9102, 9107, 9294 and 9440. While more than likely there were many more painted in this scheme, these car numbers are the only ones noted. ![]() Background color shown above is not included in decal sheet |
