Lettering for 1944 AAR design 10'-0" IH boxcars - as delivered Lettering scheme

The D&H received 25 cars from AC&F with 4/4 IDN ends. An additional 250 1944 AAR design boxcars with the 3/4 IDN ends from D&H’s Oneonta, New York shops, delivered as follows:

Series 17775-17799, 25 cars, AC&F Lot 2962, delivered September 1946 (10’-4” IH, w/4/4 IDN ends)
Series 17800-17899, 100 cars, D&H Oneonta, delivered February 1948 (10’-0” IH, w/3/4IDN ends)
Series 17900-18049, 150 cars, D&H Oneonta, delivered 1948 (10’-0” IH, w/3/4IDN ends)

Paint & Lettering: Car sides, and roof were painted boxcar red: TCP-923; ends, underframe and trucks painted with black car cement. Wheels left unpainted and allowed to gather dust, rust and road grime. Lettering white stencil paste. Road name within reporting marks was applied on the Oneonta built cars when new.
