![]() In 1946-7 the L&N took delivery of 1,344 50-ton boxcars of the 1937 AAR design as follows:
Series 90000-90499, 500 cars, Pullman-Standard Car Co, Lot 5685 - delivered December 1941 - 6’ Youngstown doors
Series 90500-90749, 250 cars, American Car & Foundry, Lot 2300 - delivered September 1941 - 6’ Youngstown doors
Series 90750-90999, 250 cars, American Car & Foundry, Lot 2300 - delivered September 1941 - 6’ 7-P Superior doors
Series 91000-91343, 344 cars, Pullman-Standard Car Co, Lot 5717 - delivered May 1942 - 6’ Youngstown doors
Paint & Lettering: Cars were painted with Pittsburg Synthetic Red, a freight car brown with more of an oxide hue than earlier cars: TCP-926. Be sure and add
some TCP-179 gray to replicate normal oxidation from being exposed to the elements. This included underbody and truck side frames. Roof was coated with
black car cement. Lettering was all white stencil paste.
