In July 1954, the C&IM took delivery of 150 P-S 1 design boxcars from Pullman-Standard, with 10’-6” IH, 10 panel welded sides and 5-Panel
Superior doors, under Lot 8191, and assigned numbers as Series 16001-16150
In February 1955, the C&IM received an additional 150 similar 10’-6“ IH design boxcars from American Car & Foundry under Lot 4363, with
the R+3/4 IDN ends, 12-panel welded sides and Youngstown YSD-2 doors. Assigned Series numbers 16501-16650.
Paint & Lettering: Lettering and paint scheme is the same on both series of cars. The C&IM painted the sides for this series of cars a medium
green with a 6” red stripe across the middle. Ends, roof and underbody including truck side frames coated with black car cement. Lettering
all white stencil paste with a red boarder on the medallion to match the stripe.
