In September 1919, Mt Vernon Car Company delivered 1,500 USRA design boxcars to the G.N. Series were 23494-24993. In 1923 the G.N. received an additional 1,000 boxcars of the USRA design from Pullman-Standard Car Co. as Series 24994-25993. By October 1953, 1,187 of these cars were still in revenue service, with 222 still remaining in January 1961.
Paint & Lettering: Cars side painted G.N. Mineral Red, with roof, ends, truck sideframes and underbody painted black. Lettering all white stencil paste. The “See America First” medallion, all white with a black center and side facing goat, was in use between 1935-1948. Faint traces of the black background can still be seen to the left of the goat on 24872. (See Protocraft Decals GN-2c for 1950’s medallion, lettering and paint scheme.) Look for Pacic Limited #900 as an accurate brass model of this car.
