In late 1947, the NH took delivery of 1,000 of the new Pullman-Standard PS-1 design all steel boxcars as follows:
Series 33500-33999, 500 cars, Pullman-Standard, Lot 5882, delivered December 1947, 7’ 7-Panel Superior doors 10‘-6” IH painted black
Series 34000-34499, 500 cars, Pullman-Standard, Lot 5894, delivered November 1947, 7’ 7-Panel Superior doors 10‘-6” IH painted black
Note: In 1955, 20 cars from this series, 34001-34020, were equipped with Evens Damage Free Loaders with steel oor plates and placed into DF service, becoming
XML Class.
Paint & Lettering: As delivered in 1947, cars were painted NH’s freight car brown and came with their 7’ Superior doors painted black. Repainted during the
1955 Evans DF conversion, the cars were painted freight car brown with a red oxide hue including doors. The DF triangle was added in the upper right corner
to the left of the door to inducate the new service.
