Previous Return to list of all 40’ boxcars in 1:48 scale Next lettering for ex-W&LE 1937 AAR boxcars that went to the NKP in 1949
![]()
In 1949, the Wheeling & Lake Erie was leased to the Nickel Plate Road. Rolling stock like the W&LE Series 24200-24501 went along and were relettered with
NKP markings. Note the small lettering at the top left corner of the car. The original Series numbers were retained. This lettering set is designed to correctly
reletter these cars:
Series 24200-24501 - 302 cars, Pullman-Standard, Lot 5649 - delivered January 1941 - 6 ft Youngstown doors - Pullman Corrugated end
Paint & Lettering: Car painted 1940’s NKP color - used from 1944 through 1959: matches TCP-923*. Be sure and blend in some TCP-179 grey to replicate normal
oxidation that would occur within the rst year or service, and progressly lighter each year. The later-delivered cars came with black ends. Underbody and
truck side frames were coated with black car cement; wheels unpainted. Lettering was all white stencil paste.
Reporting Marks and Road numbers were all 9” high. The as-delivered scheme came with the ‘simple’ “ROAD” lettering. The car depicted here has been
repainted and relettered in 1955 at NKP’s Frankfort, KY shops.
Lettering set designed and created at Protocraft Decals.
Accurate brass model of the NKP 24200-24501 Series by Protocraft is PC-3511
