1953 repaint scheme for wood refrigerator cars

Minneapolis & St. Louis leased a few refrigerator cars from Union Refrigerator Transit Lines (a subsidiary of General American Transportation Corp, builder) eet of some 1,700 cars. M&StL operated these cars from 1930 up through the 1960’s. The red and black medallion was in use from 1930 until replaced by the newer 1956 stenciled “Peoria Gateway” (see Protocraft Decals M&StL reefer-2). Car sides, ladders and door hinges and truck sideframes painted reefer orange ;roof, ends and truck sideframes painted mineral red; toe kick and underbody coated with black car cement. Wheels left unpainted. Lettering designed and created at Protocraft Decals.
