lettering for National Refrigerator Car Co banana refrigerator cars

The NRC had it’s beginnings as a subsidairy of the Cudahy ‘s Milwaulkee Refrigerator Line. In 1928, it sold it’s 3,700 wood reefers to MTD,

still operating under the NRC reporting marks. The cars deticated to the banana shipments, usually north from New Orleans, run through

series 4000 to 7499. There is a photo of a consist of these cars starting with 7808 which saw these cars painted green with yellow lettering

 

Paint & Lettering: Car sides white; roof and ends mineral red; underframe coated with black car cement. Wheels unpainted and allowed to

gather road grime and rust. Lettering black stencil paste. The 4000 series had yellow bananas and the 6000 series is shown with a green

banana bunch. However there is little documentation on this so the modeler can probably choose either.
