lettering for GATC leased 37’-3” wood reefers to Oscar Mayer Co

In March of 1937, the Oscar Mayer leased 20, 37’3” wood refrigerator cars from Union Refrigerator Transit Lines, the meat refrigerator leasing subsidiary of General American Transportation Corporation, owner and builder of the cars. Reporting marks road numbers were
randomly renumbered into 66050-67999 Series in the 1950’s. In March of 1941, Oscar Mayer leased 135, 37’-3” meat reefers from UTLX with road numbers of 5300-5499. Oscar Mayer also leased 37’ meat reefers from National Car Company using reporting marks of O.M.X. Two cars numbered as follows: 2605 and 2612. (40 foot wood reefers leased from NX were series 2625-2649) Other meat packing plants leasing UTLX cars were Dubuque and Kingman.
