lettering for St. Louis Refrigerator Car 40’ wood reefers (Anhauser-Busch Corp)

The St. Louis Refrigerator Car Company purchased used or leased wood refrigerator cars for hauling Anheuser-Busch beer in cases. Some series of cars came with ice hatches and were designated at RS, but many had no ice hatches and were designated as RB. Series for 40’ cars ran from 4000-4899 and 8000-8099. In 1949, the SLRX leased 350 wood refrigerator of 70,000 lbs. capacity from NYC owned Merchants Despatch Transportation Corporation: series ranged from 10000-10399. The SLRX fleet roster now reached 1,484 refrigerator cars as of October 1950.

Paint & Lettering: Sides painted white with a mineral red stripe at the lower side as well as top facia board. Ends and roof painted mineral red, with underbody black.
