American Car & Foundry built 900 wood refrigerator cars between May 1927 and June of 1929 for Union Refrigerator Transit Company
(URTCo.). Of that order, 445 cars went to the Milwaulkee Road’s refrigerator service under Lot 415, as Series 87000-87444. These cars were
repainted and renumbered more than once with simpler lettering schemes and logos, (see Protocraft Decals sets for these schemes). Cars
remained in revenue service into the 1950’s.
Lettering designed and created at Protocraft Decals.
Paint & Lettering: Car sides painted reefer yellow with ends and roof painted mineral red. Underbody coated with black car cement.
