Between 1941 and 1955, the War Department ordered 1,148 10,000 gallon Class ICC-103W tank cars for fuel oil, assigned to the US Army - initially with U.S.
Quartermaster reporting marks USQX - and were received as follows:
Series 10287-10859, 571 cars, Pennsylvania Car & Foundry, - delivered November 1941
Series 11690-11899, 210 cars, American Car & Foundry, Lot 3417 - delivered May 1949
Series 11900-12099, 200 cars, American Car & Foundry, Lot 3401 - delivered September 1949
Series 12100-12249, 150 cars, American Car & Foundry, Lot 3738 - delivered April 1952
Series 00000-00000, 386 cars, American Car & Foundry, Lot 4013 - delivered 1953
Series 9200 - 9401, 202 cars, American Car & Foundry, Lot 4454 - delivered May 1955
Paint & Lettering: Cars painted all black with lettering in white stencil paste. In 1941, lettering was all 7”; by 1955, the reporting marks were increased to 9”.
