Lettering for Union Oil Company - black tank

The Union Oil Company owned a fleet of over 6,000 tank cars.  Their numbering system reflected the tank's capacity; hence a 6,000 gallon tank car were numbered in the 6000 Series; 8,000 gallon tank cars in the 8000 Series, 10,000 gallon cars to the 10,000 Series.  UOCX 8067 was measured at 8188 gallon water test when built at the American Car & Foundry plant in 1924.  Union Oil owned many uninsulated tank cars as seen in the 1949 photo of UOCX 10348 below, built by General American Transportation Corp. Cars were all black with white lettering. Note the name off center to the far left end of the car, an earlier layout of the company in 1924.  UOCX 10348 has the 1949 layout without the horizontal 1 inch stripes in the reporting marks and a lighter number font.   Decal set designed and created at Protocraft Decals.
