Head-end cars used on the Golden State were pulled from in-service baggage/RPO cars, repainted in the red and silver scheme in May of 1947. These were S.P.’s 30’RPO-40’ baggage cars 5056-5059, and 2, 80’ Mail Storage cars: 4300 and 4303.
