In March 1943, the UP received 1000 Class G-50-11 steel frame general service drop bottom gondola cars of 50-ton capacity (1874 cubic feet), from Pullman-Standard’s Bessemer, Alabama shops. These were assigned road numbers as Series 64000-64999. (the photo of 60345 above correctly shows the lettering placement)
Paint & Lettering: Cars were painted UP’s oxide red. As delivered in 1943, lettering was all white stencil paste. see Protocraft Decal set UP
G-50-11(a). Cars repainted after July 1947 applied Armour yellow lettering - see Protocraft Decal set UP G-50-11(b). In 1956, 20” billboard
lettering was applied . In September 1961 the 20” name was changed from Armour yellow to white lettering.
