lettering for UP’s general service gondolas - 1943-46 white lettering scheme

In March 1943, the UP received 1000 Class G-50-11 steel frame general service drop bottom gondola cars of 50-ton capacity (1874 cubic

feet), from Pullman-Standard’s Bessemer, Alabama shops. These were assigned road numbers as Series 64000-64999.

 

Paint & Lettering: Cars were painted UP’s oxide red. As delivered lettering was all white stencil paste. Repaint schemes after 1946 applied all

Armour yellow lettering.
