The Rock Island had 600 52’-6” 70-ton Greenville design drop-end gondolas - delivered as follows:
Series 1300-1749, 450 cars, Rock Island Shops, wood floor, P-S ends - delivered September 1949
Series 1750-1799, 50 cars, Rock Island Shops, Nailable Steel floor, P-S ends - delivered September 1949
Series 2400-2499, 100 cars, Pullman-Standard, Lot 8356B, wood floor, P-S ends - delivered November 1957 *
The Rock Island cars came with both wood and nailable steel .oors and Equipco lever hand brake assembly. Interior had 16 hinged stake rings
per side and Wine Lading tie-down rods welded to the side top rail with additional 1-1/4” diameter chamfered holes in the top rail.

Paint & Lettering: Cars painted freight car red TCP-197 with lettering in all white stencil paste. As delivered cars came with 18” block letters.
After 1960, repainted cars employed just the reporting marks RI and placed the RI herald in the center panel. (see RI 3091 below as an
example)
