NC&StL’s 42’ all steel gondolas - 1947 as-delivered scheme

The Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway acquired 1,150, 42’ steel gondola cars as follows:

 

Series 43200-43349, 150 cars, Pullman-Standard, Lot 5458, Class GB-3, delivered 1929

Series 43500-43799, 300 cars, Pullman-Standard, Lot 5695, Class GB-10, delivered October, 1941

Series 43800-43999, 200 cars, Pullman-Standard, Lot 5867, Class GB-11, delivered September 1947

Series 44000-44499, 500 cars, Pullman-Standard, Lot 5930, Class GB-12, delivered April 1949

 

Paint & Lettering: Paint Specs for Lot 5867 (and probably Lot 5930) were Glidden Two-Coats-A-Day Freight Car Paint (red oxide color) - entire outside of body, underframe and truck side frames. Lettering all white stencil paste.
