Previous Return to list of all 40’ and 50’ autocars Next lettering for CGW’s 50’ centered double door boxcar - as delivered
![]() In February 1942, the Chicago Great Western took delivery of 200, 50’ automobile cars from Pullman-Standard Car Manufacturing Co., Michigan City plant, under Lot 5708, as assigned road numbers as Series 52000-52199. The cars had two unique features - Pullman Patented Corrugated 5/5 ends with square corner construction, and more obvious, the 7-panel Superior double-doors were centered on the car side rather than the traditional left positioning on autocars; one of the intended use for the cars was newsprint service. Centered double-doors were easier for forklift loading of large rolls. The list of specialties include Equipco Power hand brake and a Murphy raised panel roof with wood running boards. Paint & Lettering: Cars painted freight car brown: close to TCP-190; ends and underframe coated with black car cement; trucks painted black. Running board left unpainted. Lettering all white stencil paste. Decal set designed and created at Protocraft Decals ![]() ![]() Background color shown above is not included in decal sheet |
