lettering for D&RGW’s Fowler design boxcars

In November 1916, the Denver & Rio Grande received 1,000, 40’, 8’ inside height. single-sheathed, Fowler ‘clone’ boxcars, copied from Pullman Car Manufacturing Companies' 1915 order for the Rock Island. Cars were assigned road numbers as Series 66000-66999. Car 66172 with a 1939 reweigh date, carries the Moffat Tunnel herald and 12” reporting marks.
