lettering set for New York Central’s 70-ton AAR flat cars

The New York Central was by far the biggest user of the 70-Ton AAR design at cars, eventually receiving 1,000 of them over a period of 8 years beginning with

car number 499300 and delivered as follows:
 

Series 499300-499599, 300 cars, Despatch Shops, Inc. under order 789, as NYC Lot 712-F - delivered November 1942

Series 499600-499799, 200 cars, Despatch Shops, Inc. under order 802, as NYC Lot 721-F - delivered May 1943

Series 499800-500299, 500 cars, General American Transportation Corp, Lot 8001, NYC Lot 793-F - delivered January 1950
 

Note: In 1952, ve cars from 499300 Series were tted with bulkhead ends and assigned to Gypsum board delivery .
 

Paint & Lettering: Cars painted all black. Lettering all white stencil paste. The NYC was one of the few at car owners that lettered car ends when delivered.
