In January of 1943, the Missouri Pacific subsidairy, International-Great Northern, received 100, 50-ton 53’-6” AAR design flat cars from American Car & Foundry under Lot 2606, and assigned as Series 8500-8599 for road numbers. Construction was approved by the War Board by employing wood stringers in place of steel.
In 1951, 50 cars were rebuilt with steel stringers and equipped with bulkheads in pulpwood service, and in 1955, 14 cars were equipped with bulkheads for plasterboard service. In 1956, all these cars went to parent MP with MP reporting marks using the same numbers.
Paint & Lettering: Entire car painted with Dupont black except wood deck. Underbody coated with Texaco Black Car Cement. Lettering all white stencil paste. Ends unlettered. Truck bolster stenciled with 2” reporting marks. Wheels unpainted. Decal set designed and created at Protocraft Decals
