![]() The Pere Marquette received it’s first all-steel automobile/furniture cars in October 1930, from builder Pressed Steel Car Company of Pittsburg, PA. Series assigned was 71000-71249. (note: In 1949 these all went to the C&O with road numbers remaining by adding a 2 in front. In 1961, there were still 244 cars in revenue service under C&O Series 27100-27249. Some lasted until 1974. This Series was equipped with a Chicago-Cleveland Climax Radial Roof, a 3/3/3 Dreadnaught B end with square corner construction, opening “A” end doors supplied by Standard Railroad Equipment Co of Chicago, double-row 4/6 riveted sides of varying widths for a 10’-0” inside height, wood running boards and a Universal vertical square staff hand brake.
