![]() From July 1937 through July 1942, the Nickel Plate received 199, 50’-6” all-steel automobile cars built by the Ralston Steel Car Company. Only the first 25 cars were equipped with end doors - Series 87000-87024. Car were equipped with Viking roofs, 3-panel Creco double-doors, Recessed 4/5 Dreadnaught B end with square corner construction, and 10’-6” A end doors supplied by Standard Railway Equipment Co of Chicago . Cars were taller with a 10’-6” inside height. Sides were 4/6 single-riveted panels of specific varying widths, AB brakes with Champion Power Hand Brake assembly, and wood running boards. Cars rode on Bettendorf design 50-ton solid bearing trucks.
