50’ automobile car for the C&NW

In May 1937, the C&NW received 500, 50’ double-door automobile cars from Mt. Vernon Car Company under Lot 9227.  These were assigned road numbers as Series 51000-51998, even numbers only.  Construction was with a Viking roof, 4/5 Dreadnaught ends with the square corner design and 4/6 riveted side panels for a 10’-6” inside height.  Side panels featured two additional rivets centered on each panel.  Cars were equipped with Equipco Power hand brake and wood running boards.  Automobile loading chain tie-down storage pipes extending below floors.  Car ran on Bettendorf design 50-ton trucks.
