![]() The Southen Railroad received 100, 50’ automobile cars with end doors from Mt. Vernon Car Manufacturing Company under Job #9739 and 9740. Fifty cars delivered in August of 1941 as Series 40200-40249, and in December of 1944, 50 cars as Series 41500-41549. Cars were equipped with Murphy Raised panel roofs, 5/5 Dreadnaught “B” end with round (W) corner construction and “A”: end end-doors from Standard Railway Equipment Company of Chicago. Hand brake was Universal Power hand brake and Morton running boards. Auto tie-down chain pipes below the floor line and roping staples on the side sills. Cars rode on Bettendorf design 50-ton trucks.
