In October 1929, the B&M received 2,000, 8’-7” IH single-sheathed and all-steel Class XM boxcars built by Standard Steel Car Company. Series was 71000-72999. Twenty-Five cars, Series 71954-71974 and 71996-71999 were built with Duryea underframes, while the remainder came with standard ARA design underframes. Sides were both wood single-sheathed and steel double-sheathed: 71000-71953 wood; 71954-71974 all steel; 71975-71995 wood; 71996-71999, steel; 72000-72999 wood. Cars came with 3-panel Creco doors, except series 72000-72999 which came with Youngstown doors. Cars were delivered with B&M’s rectangle monogram and painted freight car brown: TCP-19. After WW II the cars were repainted with a slightly redder shade of brown (TCP-198) with the new Minuteman emblem.
