Western Fruit Express for wood reefers
Western Fruit Express was formed in 1923 as a Great Northern Railway affiliate of the Fruit Growers Express Company. During the 1920’s and 1940’s, the WFE had a fleet of over 7,000 wood cars, the majority of which were built by Haskell & Barker.
Paint & Lettering: Sides were painted reefer yellow-orange with mineral red roof and ends; black underbody and trucks. Repaint schemes usually resulted in everything on the sides, including roof edges, ladders and hinges, painted reefer orange- yellow. Side facing goat applied in the 1950’s with sans-serif lettering.
