lettering set for 50-ton AAR design 53’-6” flatcars

In November 1942, the C&NW received 250, 50-ton AAR design 53’-6” atcars from Pullman-Standard Car Company under Lot 5720, and assigned road numbers as Series 45601-46099 (odd numbers only). In February 1944, the C&NW received an additional 250, 50-ton AAR design 53’-6” atcars from Pullman-Standard Car Company under Lot 5762, and assigned road numbers as Series 46101-46599 (odd numbers only) These 250 flatcars were built with the War restrictions on steel and had 4x4 r stringers in place of steel - hence were classified as War Emergency Cars. In November 1946, the C&NW received 300, 50-ton AAR design 53’-6” atcars from Mt. Vernon Car Company under Lot 10428. These were assigned road numbers as Series 44001-44599, (odd numbers only).
