lettering set for X29B & D rebuilt boxcars - post 1954 shadow scheme

Part Number: PRR X29B-D

Price: $8.50

Between 1948-1951, the PRR rebuilt 4,500 X29 boxcars of it’s 30,000 car eet of X29s, into Class X29B with 6’ doors and D with 8‘ doors, in its Altoona, Pennsylvania shops. An entirely new body on the original underframe, resulting in a 10’-6” IH, 3,898 cubic foot capacity boxcar. Many were assigned to LCL service with the colorful Pennsy Merchandise Service paint scheme of 1949, the remainder began service with the conventional keystone scheme but in 1954 the new shadow keystone was applied with large 13” lettering and unique calendar numbering fonts (see over). Series 23600-25500 in 1955, and Series 26501-31000 in 1950

Paint & Lettering: The cars were painted with the PRR’s oxide red paint, including truck siderames, (wheels left unpainted and allowed to gather road grime) with white stencil paste lettering. Lettering and artwork by Greg Komar
