lettering set for MORRELL wood reefers - 1950's scheme
Morrel Refrigerator Line’s MORX 9021 was part of Series 9000-9199 wood refrigerator cars leased from builder and lessor Mather Stock Car
Company. MORX 9562, below, was part of Series 9200-9974 built by Mather Stock Car Co in March of 1940. The 9200-9974 Series came with
steel Dreadnaught ends, whereas the earlier 9000-9199 Series had wood ends. You can see below the siding in 9562 that these cars were
rebuilt by Mather from stock cars. In 1955 Mather Stock Car Co was acquired by North American Car Corporation.
Morrell also owned and operated their own eet of wood refrigerator cars built by General American Transportation Corp in 1939, as Series
5500-5699. These cars were sold to Mather Stock Car Co, and later, ownership passed to North American Car Co, while still retaining the MORX
Car sides painted referigerator orange (TCP-70), ends and roof mineral red with black underframe and truck side frames.
