The two examples above are part of a 2,000 Modified 1937 AAR design boxcar order built by NYC’s Despatch Shops in Buffalo, New York, road number assigned to Lot 734-B, built in 1942, were numbered 159000-159999, and Lot 745-B, built in 1944/45, 161000- 161999. In June of 1959, the NYC officially adopted the new Century Green paint scheme with the 144” wide herald. Intitially, roofs and ends were coated with black car cement such as 161201 above, but within a year the entire car was pained Century Green. In 1963, the smaller 52” herald replaced the larger herald. Both styles of Gothic and simplified Gothic lettering are included over the road numbers easily noted by the “C”s on the decal sheet.
