During the period April through June, 1937, the Santa Fe took delivery of 2,000 1937 AAR design with Duryea underframe, Type Box-27 boxcars as follows:
Series 136500-137999, 1,500 cars, Pullman-Standard, Lot 5547, delivered April 1937
Series 138000-138499, 500 cars, American Car & Foundry, Lot 1607, delivered May/June 1937
Paint & Lettering: Cars were painted ATSF Brown: TCP-921). Be sure and add a few drops of TCP-179 grey to replicate normal oxidation that would result from
exposure over the years. Underbody, brake detail and truck side frames painted with black car cement. Often times the roof paint had slate granuals sprinkled
on while still drying to provide traction.
The curved map and Chief and Grand Canyon slogan scheme were applied between January and April, 1940: the straight line map thereafter. After April 1947,
the map and Scout slogan were no longer used and the map was replaced with the “Ship and Travel” slogan which was used through the 1960’s. Map or Ship
and Travel was applied to the right side of the car (standing at the brake wheel (B) end, map would be on your right) The modeler can choose any combination
of map/slogan schemes by emailing the request with the decal order.
