Lettering for 1937 AAR boxcars - as delivered scheme

In September, 1940, the GM&O received 1,000 1937 AAR design boxcars from AC&F, Lot 2078, Series 8000-8999. In May 1942, an additional 684 cars were delivered from AC&F Lot 2344, Series 5000-5683.

Paint & Lettering: Cars painted with Pittsburgh Synthetic Brown: paint chip matches TCP-923. 8000-8999 Series had black roof, ends and underframe. Lettering white stencil paste. Note the as-delivered lettering style versus the 1953 repaint style - much heavier letters, the Rebel Route banner was dropped and dimensional data went back to 2” from 3”.
